BDBD.INF/BDBD.BMP?

$

On an unofficial Windows XP Pro SP3 Cyber Lite ISO, in the i386 directory, I found two files named BDBD, one in a BMP format and the other one in an INF format. These files display a temporary image before the GUI stage of installation begins (referring to billborards that show after a solid color or temporary background). Can someone tell me more about the aformentioned file and tell me how do I use my own BDBD file for my custom version of Windows?

I've got this legendary socket 939 motherboard DFI LANParty UT SLI-DR Expert chipset nForce4 SLI almost new only one SATA port is somewhat messed up missing those plastic parts from both sides , bought this baby really cheap ~ 55 $ from well known Romanian e-bay like site okazii.ro , and I put it on my FX-60 dual core processor ( yeah , the most powerful unlocked socket 939 era processor! ) and some cheap KINGSTON value memory and tried to boot my rig.Here is my problem now:I know this board is working those 4 red diagnostic LEDS start 4,3,2 next only one left so no "4 LEDs of death" syndrome for me and the onboard speaker beeps only ONCE which I know is a good thing but after that I cannot enter BIOS to setup things as I need because Del key on my PS2 ( and I tried with USB keyboard , too ) keyboard is NOT working as it should do I press that key and the result is 0 nada nothing , first I see the boot logo from DFI after that I see these error messages "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded , press F1 to continue or Del to enter setup" and when I press F1 sometimes I see this message "Verifying Pool Data and Backup CMOS OK!" and other times I see "Sil3114 SATA RAID Press Ctrl-S or F4 to enter RAID utility".One more thing to add is that I can actually use boot menu selection using Esc key to select HDD,CD-ROM or some other options like floppy disk or USB stick boot and the motherboard can actually boot using CD/DVD I already tried UBCD rescue CD and some Linux live distros to see if it's not a problem with my FX-60 processor and I'm happy that it is working well is all good no problem there actually I've seen it's name and working frequency ~ 2616 Mhz at POST screen so it cannot be defective or fryed and neither the mobo, please help me solve this little problem with my mobo.

Microsoft Windows\Office Questions

Hello.

1) Is there a online website that I can purchase Windows 7 Ultimate legally? All I am after is the 32-bit disk and the product key. The fancy packaging that comes with the retail edition is not for me and I am certainly not going to pay £300+ for it.

2) In addition to the above question, can it be stripped down and still function using WinToolkit? I want to remove all of the bloatware that MS have installed. If this is the wrong forum to ask this question, please let me know and I will ask it in the WinToolkit forum.

3) Is this website legal to sell Office 2013 as such a low price? http://www.microsoftcheapsoftware.com/microsoft-office-professional-plus-2013-106-p.asp

4) Are there places that I can buy a copy of it? All I want is the disk and product key.

5) I have read that to activate Office 2013, you need an email address from one of Microsoft services i.e. Hotmail, Windows Live Mail, Live.com, etc. Is this true? If so, can it be activated with any other email provider?

xp home sp3 in reboot loop, no f8,no bsod, OEM sp1 need Slipstream BD

Hello,

I have a sony laptop with sp3, think that a pwr surge caused a reboot loop, my f8 doesn't seem to work after 25 tries. My cd rom is bootable. I tried my sony OEM disk, but get nothing, except a progress bar saying it is installing the recovery console, but I never get a menu, just a solid blue screen with no mouse, and I am assuming that is because the disk is sp1 and the computer has sp3. I read this on a site leading me to believe this(see the bold text in #3).

  1. Press <Enter> to start the Windows Setup.
    Note - DO NOT press <R> to choose the option To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R
  2. Accept the License Agreement. Windows will then search for existing Windows installations.
  3. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list (there may only be one) and press <R> to start the repair.
    If Repair is not one of the options, you should press <F3> to Quit. This usually means that the version of Windows on the CD does not match the one already installed. If you do proceed to install a fresh copy of Windows rather than repairing an existing one, you will lose access to all the applications you previously had installed (although your own files should be preserved). You will also need to supply the correct Windows licence key for the CD.

I've tried hirens but only get an image of sky and grass, no icons or start menu.

I put my cd in the drive of the windows 7 laptop (borrowed) and and moved all files to a folder I named xp.

Downloaded sp2  & sp3 and was able to extract them from their cabinets using the command line,hoping  to slipstream & boot the computer so that I can read my bsod error.

(I have a borrowed win 7 laptop, so image of system folders is from that comp, not the one in need of repair.)

I have tried 2 different commands from 2 different sites. this one
cd i386 [ENTER]
cd update [ENTER]
update -s
:c:\xp [ENTER]

and this one

WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU /integrate:C:\WinXP

both caused this pop up

error1.jpg

nLite gives this pop up error

n-Lite.jpg

here is the files copied showing sp1 and i386, I wouldn't think the "I" being capitol in i386 would matter, but that is from OEM, not me.

So now for my big question, is there anything I can do to slipstream sp2 & sp3 onto my OEM sp1 disk, or do I have to purchase another windows home disk from somewhere like ebay with sp2 already on it and then try to slipstream that disk, with sp3?

Thank you to anyone for taking your time to answer my question, if possible please don't shortcut the answer to much if there is an explanation, I'm obviously a newbie.

How much Ram for Seven 64b?

$

Hello you all!

I've no experience with Seven (used 95, 98, Me, 2k, Xp) but consider installing the 64b variant on a friend's computer having Xp up to now who uses only a web browser.

The machine has 1GB Ram, which MS says is the minimum for Seven - but usually this minimum doesn't suffice to my taste. I'd add some capacity if installing Seven.

So: at what Ram size does Seven 64b run at full speed?

Thank you!

Can't Burn DVDs On One Computer

$

I'm having some trouble working out why I can't burn DVDs on this one particular computer. I usually burn DVDs (DVD-RWs actually) on my other computer, and it always works, every time.

The computer having the trouble does have a DVD burner drive and I think it is properly functioning (I could swap the drive for another if need be, it does read the DVDs perfectly fine). No matter what software I use, it just doesn't want to erase the disc in preperation for writing new data to it. CDBurnerXP goes through the process without error, but doesn't actually do anything, and the process is far too quick. ImgBurn shows an error message regarding write speeds.

A picture's worth a thousand words:

http://s25.postimg.org/gpw35qqcf/IMGBurn_Not_Working.png

I did try the AWS (Automatic Write Speed?) and 1x speed settings. Same error.

I did do a Google search when I first discovered this problem. It lead me to believe that there is some sort of missing driver (I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3), but even after reinstalling the Intel chipset drivers, the problem is still there.

I don't want to boot up my other computer just to burn a DVD, especially since it's not easily accessible right now. So any wisdom and expertise on the subject to spare would be appreciated.

Questions about ATI Radeon HD8240 and Qualcom Atheros AR9485

Hello.

I am trying to create a Windows 2000 install disk using nLite. I would like to integrate the drivers of the ATI Radeon HD 8240 and Qualcom Atheros AR9485 as they are my graphics card, and wireless network adapter.

I will be using unofficial updates (Blackwingcat's unofficial kernel) on this installation, to have better program support and hardware support. Both drivers I need are XP versions, which should work on UNofficial 2k (If i slipstream it right in).

To get down to business, I have a 64-bit OS on my computer. These drivers may/may not be 64 bit versions, I do not know. Do I need the 32-bit drivers, as Windows 2000 is 32-bit? Lastly, it is hard to find just a driver on the web. You need to download the driver installer. Does anyone know how to get the driver from the installer? I know where the drivers install, but I don't see any .drv files.

Thanks.

nLite and Unofficial Updates.

Hello.

I have a full Windows 2000 ISO, and I am planning on using nLite to customize it. One thing I would have a good use for on Windows 2000 is unofficial updates. In particular, blackwingcat's Extended Kernel and Unofficial Updates Rollup 2 (combines official updates). These would allow me to benefit from features such as newer programs, and better compatibility with hardware.

So, getting down to it, how do I use Unofficial Updates with nLite?

Are RAMDisks worth it?

I've recently gotten into a game which heavily relies on HDD access which is especially slow due to the 5400RPM laptop drive I have. Would the use of RAM drive software be a benefit to save-game access speed or should I just wait until I get a SSD?

Also, what RAMDisk software would you recommend that allows a 'raw' directory to be set as a drive instead of an image file since the game is rather picky about its location.

is there a way to make a batch script display the variable name instea

$

Hello, i am making a batch script that will install another batch script. It looks like this:
@echo off
echo @echo off > example.bat
echo echo Hi >> example.bat
echo echo 1.) Option1 >> example.bat
echo echo 2.) Option2 >> example.bat
echo echo 3.) Option3 >> example.bat
echo if %selection%==1 goto opt1 >> example.bat
echo if %selection%==2 goto opt2 >> example.bat
echo if %selection%==3 goto opt3 >> example.bat

So it displays all this text and saves what is displayed to example.bat. But it will display variables as their values; instead of making this:

if %selection%==1 goto opt1

it will do this:

if ==1 goto opt1

because theese variables have no value. So, is there a way to tell this script to display variable names instead of values?

p.s.
also, a pause message is "Press any key to continue..." . Can i change that?

Windows 98 on a Compaq nx9010 laptop

So I acquired a free laptop with one exception, it came with no power charger. I managed to get one and decided that this laptop was not designed with me in mind. It came with Windows XP and I wanted Windows 98 on it. Well, that was a little tricky as the ACPI BIOS was a big problem so I did the setup /p i switch for Win98 installation and so it bypassed all that. So I pretty much have everything going except I'm not happy with the video. I probably will never use it for gaming but just internet stuff however the ATI Radeon IGP 340M/345M drivers are very hard to find. I tried the Omega drivers and at least I have a full color display but from the dxdiag tool, it doesn't look like it'll support 3D. Maybe it will since I haven't tested it but what bugs me is in the 6.2 Catalyst Driver package, there's a Radeon IGP 340 driver but it's not recognized and when I force it's install, when Windows comes back up, the screen is just black. It hangs before it hits the GUI at all. Any insight would be great on this subject! I do have a few things to look into as there are two 256MB memory modules installed and the BIOS itself only sees 192MB so something is definitely wrong.
