Outlook 2010 problem, IMAP

$

For about the last ten days or so, I have been getting this message  "Your Imap Server Closed the Connection"

Then there are two boxes, OK,  and Details. Under this there are two additional messages. Cannot display the folder, Cannot connect to the server. If I click on the OK a few times, all is well. I can send and receive messages. But sometimes I need to close Outlook and restart it. This Imap message usually appears when I first open Outlook, although it has happened when I opened a different folder, after outlook was already open.  I called to my Internet provider and they tell me all the settings are fine, that it is an Outlook problem. I googled the message, and tried several of the fixes, but no luck. I even did  that REPAIR to Office 2010, still no luck. Any suggestions ?? I am condidering upgrading to Microsoft Office 2013, which has Outlook 2013...would that correct my problem for sure, or could I still have the same message about IMAP closing the connection etc.  Thanks, Mike

Windows 7 disable WFP

Guys, I searched but did not find any usable solution how to disable the Windows file protection, aka WFP in Windows 7.

All I manage to find is a register switch for this, yet it require running debudger, so, nothing really usefull... Basicaly it is SFCDisable set to 1 (or create if not exist) in registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

http://superuser.com/questions/479499/how-to-disable-windows-file-protection-in-windows-xp-or-7-from-registry

"You have to attach a kernel debugger before setting the value to 1 will actually do anything."

Is not there are any way?

And I don't mean tweaking the created files not to be protected like in this link:

http://windows7themes.net/en-us/how-to-disable-windows-7-file-protection/

Anyone?

I would love to replace the current Notepad with Notepad2, but... WFP protect it.

AMD Phenom II x4 955 on Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H

So I managed to get one of these processors from my local computer shop for a pretty good deal. It appears to be a black edition with the number: HDZ955FBK4DGM on it. After tons of reading, it says that this processor is completely compatible with the motherboard once you flash the BIOS to at least revision F5. I have it flashed to F11 and I'm still having problems getting it going. What happens is the processor is completely recognized and it posts fine except for one of the BIOS revisions which actually hung. It gets into the BIOS just fine and I can play around it in, but once POST finishes and control hands off to either the CD drive or Hard drive for booting, I just get a black screen and nothing further happens. The power supply is a 450w but it only has a 4 pin CPU connector. The 6 pin dedicated graphics plug does fit in the port since there is an 8 pin port but I don't want to boot it up not knowing what will happen and I've read it's really not needed anyway. The RAM is DDR2-800MHz and cooling doesn't seem to be an issue as the machine has its own alarm which will activate and ultimately shut the system down. I tried google all afternoon with answers that really don't help me a lot. Does anyone else know what might be going on. I noticed the RAM goes from being in single channel to unganged mode, whatever that means. I don't really want to spend money on upgrading as the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ is sufficient but why this processor is giving me grief, I don't know.

Windowa XP Installation process

Hello,

i have made for me an unattended XP CD and i'm now asking me which files and Folders are included in the setup process.

I know so far:

The El torito Bootsector looks for an bootfiix.bin in the i386 dir (Press key ...) if present the Press key message is shown else it loads the setupldr.bin directly.

The setupldr.bin loads ntdetect.com (Setup is detcting...) which Returns the main hardware configuration to the setupldr then ???

I haven't found a topic which explains so detailed the boot and installationprogress.

kthanx

Hello, i beeing using Imgex tool from WinPE 2.0 (The Windows® Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows® 7 ), and i have made number of backups for Winxp and Win7 thoroughly past months.
It suffice's my need for making a backup and restoration.
What i want to know is, can i make this Imagex tool bootable from DOS, i know their is a process for creating a bootable WINPE2.0 but it still takes considerable time in my Dual core E5700 process, @3.00GhZ and 2 GB ram.

Is their a tool or a process to make Imagex bootable from pendrive that would be fast to load.

Awaiting some reply.

Windows ME on Acer Aspire 5502WXMi (ATI Mobility Radeon X700 problem)

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, even though I have been around here for a while, I want to share my problem in hope that somebody can help me sort it out.

I have a 14.1 inch WXGA Acer Aspire 5502WXMi laptop with the following main specs:

CPU: Mobile Intel Pentium M 760 2.0 GHz

MB: Intel Alviso 915PM + 82801FBM ICH6-M

GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon X700 (M26) 256 MB PCI-E

RAM: 2x512 MB DDR2

HDD: 80 GB IDE

I built this laptop because I wanted the smallest possible laptop that supports Windows 98/ME natively and has a discrete video card, there are some old games that i really love and i thought it would be neat to play them again.

Initially i wanted to build this laptop with an nVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 from a Toshiba M65, physically the video card is compatible, but since the Acer Insyde BIOS supports only ATI cards, it did not agree with it and did not POST, so I had to go with the ATI Mobility Radeon X700, even though it's performance is lower and it seems to be the party breaker.

I installed Windows ME on it and it went through without any major problems apart from a hardware conflict (Motherboard Resources) probably from ACPI, which doesn't bother me.

I have all the drivers working except the one for the video card, which is making me pull my hair in frustration.

I downloaded the ATI Catalyst 6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314.exe and I edited the inf to support my video card hardware ID, amazingly the card installs just fine, Direct 3D acceleration works flawlessly but right after the driver installs and the laptop reboots, the screen looks unintelligible and displays artifacts as if the resolution is not supported, and so i plugged in an external monitor to change the resolution. The external monitor works just fine but the laptop LCD it's as if the video card does not recognize it, even if i edit the driver inf and input the native 1280x800 resolution before i install it.

At this point i'm out of ideas and i was hoping that somebody here can help me mod this driver in such a way that it supports and detects my laptop LCD properly.

Here is the modification i did to the driver inf, i removed the unnecessary lines that not represent my video card just to keep it simple but there are aspects of it that i do not understand, i highlighted the modifications i did in red:

Win9x locks up

Hi all,

I have an old gateway computer with win89 se, it has a pentium3 cpu and 650 MHerts speed also 300 odd Mb memory.

It has taken to booting up ok and runs for about a min then locks up no mouse or keyboard. I also have go-back which is a form of system restore. A message often comes up saying go-back has shut down windows to prevent damage to files.

It runs ok in safe mode,I have tried to remove go-back but get stuck in a loop of shutting down and never get to get rid of go-back.

It has been to the doctors but because it is so old he says it is not worth spending money on and any way could not find the fault.

There are two hard discs and Ithought about installing LINUX or somthing similair on the second drive.

I know it is old but has some usefull stuff on the hard drive. As it will only run for a short time almost impossible to save data. I am somewhat attched to the thing anyway.

Regars for any usefull advise. pulteny.

ClearType only for Firefox?

I wonder, if the Windows 7 ClearType could be used only in web browser (eg. Firefox). Using it for normal screen titles and such looks weird with so small fonts used.

But off selection cause Firefox display some big (and small) fonts kinda weird.

Is there any way to tweak the settings like "never for classic Windows, but possible for the web browser when it ask for it"?

Anyone have an Update list for WS2012e?

Hi,

I've been trying out WUD and WinToolkit to build new a Windows 7 install disk, and after a few hiccups, I can get Windows7+SP1+Updates+Add-Ons+Silent Installers to install in a VM successfully.  Thank you very much to everyone who works on these tools and lists.

I'm also about to do full installation of WS2012e on my ex-WHS box after my Essentials evaluation version expired, and would be interested to know if anyone has an update list for Windows Server 2012 Essentials, or where I might be able to find or make one?  Most of the integration guides I can find seem to be for Client versions of Windows rather than Server builds, which I suppose makes sense since I'd not expect that servers need rebuilding as often as client PCs.

However, I'd prefer to be able to install the new server fully up to date if that's possible, without having to wait for the usual slow downloads and installs of Windows/Microsoft update afterwards.  If WS2012e doesn't do slipstreaming/integration of updates, the next best choice would be to download all updates before doing the new installation, and then install them offline.  I read something suggesting that Windows7 updates would work on Server2008 - would the same be true for Windows8 updates?

Can anyone help with this?

Spool32 is OK - Want to Enable/Disable

$

If you started with computers before the graphical interface or GUI, that may be
one good reason for keeping a copy of 98SE. I've got diagnostic software (for
electronic testing) that was created when 98SE was at its peak.

I created several batch files that run in the root before 98 starts, and scripts that
are moved in and out the Startup folder.

Two processes that I don't need most of the time are systray.exe and spool32.exe.
Disabling these two at startup reduces the load and has no negative effects.

Recently, I installed the virtual printer CutePDF Writer. If spool32 is disabled, I've got
to reboot. It's incredibly easy to terminate spool32, but running this process without
a reboot is not easy!

I tried varies Run and DOS commands without success. There is a tiny applet from
www.nirsoft.net called Explorestart. It terminates explorer.exe and immediately
restarts explorer. Useful if your system slows down or is about to completely freeze
up. If explorer.exe can be killed off and restarted without a reboot, it must be possible
with spool32.exe.

There probably is an applet that will reload one or more system processes without a reboot.
I know all the commands for "restarting" 98. In my system a restart is slower than a reboot.

XUSBSUPP - eXtended USB Supplement for Windows 95 OSR2

Well, here it is folks. USB Support for Windows 95 - simplified. :w00t:

This is essentially "NUSB for Windows 95" except for the fact that no USB 2.0 drivers exist for Windows 95.

No hoops to jump through.
No multiple packages to install.
No endless searching for USB storage drivers that work.

This package has been a long time in the making, and would not be possible without our good friend rloew, who has created a universal USB storage driver that is Windows 95 compatible.

So without repeating myself, here is the "ReadMe" for the package, which will provide further details.

XUSBSUPP - eXtended USB Supplement for Windows 95 OSR 2.x
                                    Version 1.0

                                Copyright © 2014
Conner McCoy (LoneCrusader) & Rudolph Loew (rloew)
             =========================================================

OVERVIEW:

This unofficial update package for Windows 95 OSR 2.x (95B and 95C) combines all of the original Microsoft USB Supplement packages and HotFixes ever issued for USB support under Windows 95 along with a universal USB Mass Storage Device driver solution for Windows 95 into one stand alone installer.

This package is similar in function and intent to "NUSB" - a popular unofficial update for Windows 98 Second Edition. Once installed, no other third-party drivers will be required for USB Mass Storage devices and they will simply "plug and play" as they do under Windows ME, 2000, or XP. A "Safe Disconnect & Removal" utility is also provided that will appear in the System Tray when a device is connected and functions like Windows ME, 2000, or XP.

This package is intended to be used on a new, clean installation of Windows 95 OSR2. It is not recommended for use under other circumstances or conditions and has not been tested under other circumstances or conditions. Do NOT install this package on a system where the original Microsoft USB Supplement (USBSUPP.EXE) has already been installed, as it will DESTROY the backups created for uninstalling the original Microsoft package.

             =========================================================

INSTALLATION:

WITH A NEW INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS:

1.) Install your new Windows 95 OSR2 system.

2.) When Windows 95 SETUP is complete, reboot your system.

3.) When your system has rebooted, open Control Panel, System, Device Manager.

4.) Remove all unknown "Other devices" from the list of hardware.

5.) Run XUSBSUPP.EXE and follow the prompts.

6.) As the system reboots, follow the prompts to install drivers for USB devices.

7.) When the Desktop has loaded, connect a USB Storage Device and proceed as you would with any later version of Windows.

WITH AN EXISTING INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS:

***NOTE that this package must not be used with USBSUPP.EXE already installed.***

1.) If USBSUPP.EXE or any other package that provides USB drivers has been installed, each must be uninstalled and you must reboot before proceeding.

2.) Start with a clean boot of your system. Do not perform any other tasks prior to beginning this installation.

3.) Open Control Panel, System, Device Manager.

4.) Remove all remaining USB devices (if any) and all unknown "Other devices" from the list of hardware.

5.) Run XUSBSUPP.EXE and follow the prompts.

6.) As the system reboots, follow the prompts to install drivers for USB devices.

7.) When the Desktop has loaded, connect a USB Storage Device and proceed as you would with any later version of Windows.

             =========================================================

UNINSTALLATION:

1.) Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

2.) Select "eXtended USB Supplement to Windows 95 OSR 2.x" and click "Add/Remove."

3.) Follow the prompts and reboot your system.

4.) Be aware that two empty folders will remain inside your Windows directory, namely \SYSTEM32 and \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. If these folders are empty they may be safely deleted.

5.) Be aware that copies of USB.INF, RLUSB95.INF, or other INFs contained in this package may exist in the \INF\OTHER folder if placed there by Windows 95. They should be removed manually to prevent confusion if other drivers are used.

             =========================================================

KNOWN LIMITATIONS:

This package does not provide a driver for USB 2.0, as no such drivers exist for Windows 95. Many hours were spent by the authors searching for a compatible driver, and many hours were spent in experimentation trying to get Windows 98-compatible USB 2.0 drivers to load with no success.

This package does not provide a driver for USB 3.0, as no such drivers exist for any version of Windows 9x.

This package does not provide a driver for USB-HID or USB peripheral devices such as keyboards, mice, or joysticks. While some very early ("embryonic" shall we say) and incomplete work was done in this area by Microsoft (see the Windows NT4 DDK), unfortunately none of the sample driver files provided actually work. If anyone knows how to make the Microsoft files from the DDK work and can successfully demonstrate this, or knows of any working third-party USB peripheral drivers for Windows 95, please inform the authors of this package.

This package enables the use of USB-connected optical drives, but does not provide a driver for the UDF filesystem frequently used on CD\DVD\Blu-Ray discs. Visit Rudolph R. Loew's homepage at http://rloew1.no-ip.com for a suitable driver.

When unistalling this package, two nested folders will remain in your Windows directory, specifically the folders \SYSTEM32 and \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. If these folders are empty, they may be safely deleted. This package does not remove them due to a limitation in the Windows 95 version of WININIT.EXE.

unable to boot a fresh install without the USB installer in

I have a samsung NP530, it has a 16GB caching drive, which unfortunately I could not remove. anyway, I installed windows 7 onto the newly installed SSD, but if I remove the USB installer (which I had used Rufus to make), it will refuse to boot, saying BOOTMGR cannot be found. Only when the USB key is in it will boot. I tried to format the 16GB caching drive as drive R and the SSD as drive C, but sitll the same. Even worse when I run startup repair it will say windows is in drive D...

Help, im so confused regarding this already...

Thanks

New malware exists as encrypted JS code in registry

According to this:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/earthlink_writeup.jsp?docid=2014-080408-5614-99

Windows 9x/me is vulnerable to this exploit. Under the registry RUN keys, an entry is created where the name of the target is composed of encrypted javascript as well as using "non-ascii" characters (which renders the entry as invisible when viewed using standard tools such as regedit).

Would msconfig show such entries - even if it just lists them on a separate blank line with nothing printed on it?

Can Win-9x/me process javascript code present in the registry?

Something else that has been said of this malware:

"The non-ASCII trick is a tool Microsoft uses to hide its source code from being copied, but the feature was later cracked."

So, how compatible is win-9x in terms of operability with this method of storing and running "mal-code" from the registry?

Outlook 2010 problem, IMAP

K9N Neo PCB 2.0 and Windows 98SE - can I have LAN/Audio?

Are there drivers for LAN and Audio for this MOBO?

http://msi.com/product/mb/K9N_Neo_PCB_2.0.html#hero-specification

I can have a nicely working Windows 98SE on this MOBO, but there's no LAN or Audio drivers.

The LAN chipset is Vitesse VSC8601.

The Audio chipset is Realtek ALC888.

And yes, I know I can just buy a cheap Realtek RTL8139, and a cheap PCI sound card but that's no fun. :)
